One of the three Team Penske executives dismissed before last month’s 109th Indianapolis 500 has already landed a new role in the NTT IndyCar Series.
Kyle Moyer, a respected veteran of the sport, has joined Arrow McLaren as Director of Competition. He reunites with Tony Kanaan, now Arrow McLaren’s Team Principal, 21 years after their 2004 championship season at Andretti Green Racing. Moyer starts next week during testing at Iowa Speedway.
Moyer was most recently General Manager of Team Penske’s IndyCar program and race strategist for Scott McLaughlin’s No. 3 Chevrolet. He, along with Tim Cindric and Ron Ruzewski, was dismissed after a technical rules violation involving the car’s rear attenuator ahead of Indy 500 qualifying.
With over 30 years in motorsports, Moyer began his career with Gary Bettenhausen’s team and later had success at Forsythe-Green and Andretti, helping Jacques Villeneuve win the Indy 500 and CART title in 1995. He joined Team Penske in 2015, contributing to five Indy 500 wins and four championships.
At Arrow McLaren, Moyer will take over race strategy for Nolan Siegel, allowing Kanaan to focus on all three drivers. Kanaan said Moyer’s deep racing knowledge and their long-standing relationship made him the top choice, despite interest from nearly every team.
Though dismissed from Penske amid controversy, Moyer remains widely respected across the paddock and was expected to quickly return to a top role—his move to Arrow McLaren confirms it.
