Kyle Kirkwood claimed pole position for the 50th Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, leading an Andretti Global front-row sweep alongside teammate Colton Herta. Kirkwood’s final-lap time of 1:06.1921 in the No. 27 Honda earned him his third career pole and second at Long Beach.
Herta qualified second with a 1:06.4232 in the No. 26 Honda, giving Andretti its first front-row lockout since Toronto last year. Championship leader Alex Palou will start third, followed by Felix Rosenqvist, Marcus Ericsson (another Andretti driver), and Scott McLaughlin.
Palou briefly held the top time late in the session before Kirkwood and Herta delivered their fastest laps. Herta noted a lack of tire temperature due to a rushed prep lap may have cost him pole.
Christian Lundgaard’s crash in Turn 6 ended his session and promoted Rosenqvist into the Firestone Fast Six.
The race is set for Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
