Denny Hamlin wins Cook Out 400, Martinsville Results

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx won Sunday’s Cook Out 400 from Martinsville Speedway.

Christopher Bell began the day on the pole clearing Chase Elliott to lead the opening laps before Elliott would get around him on lap 24. A caution for debris would follow which left the field altering pit strategy as most of the field would pit.

Josh Berry would lead the field on the restart as he and those who did not pit started out front. Chris Buescher would spin on lap 71 following contact from Carson Hocevar. Berry would experience a battery issue on the ensuing pit stop losing two laps in the process while most of the leaders opted to pit. Joey Logano would lead the restart and claim the stage a lap later. Austin Cindric would then experience battery issues himself.

Alex Bowman would cede the lead to Elliott to start the second stage. Bowman and John Hunter Nemechek who did not pit began to fall back though the field. On lap 122 Burt Myers would slow on the frontstretch and come to a stop. Denny Hamlin would lead the restart with Bubba Wallace alongside. Hamlin would then win the second stage as Elliott moved up to second.

Hamlin would lead the field to start the third stage. Riley Herbst would then spin just past the midway point following contact from Cindric. The next spin came from Shane Van Gisbergen who lost a right rear wheel and spun. Several cars would take the wave around to get back on the lead lap. On lap 298 Ty Gibbs would spin following contact from Zane Smith. Almost immediately after the restart Chase Briscoe would slide up and hit Logano. Hamlin began to click off laps as Cindric would end up taking his car behind the wall as they ran out of batteries. Bell would find himself four seconds behind Hamlin.

Hamlin would go onto win his 55th career win tying him on the all-time list with Rusty Wallace.
