Jesse Chavez was hit by a come backer off the bat of Miguel Cabrera in the first game of a double header in Detroit on Wednesday.
The ball left Cabrera’s bat at 99 mph and left Chavez on the ground unable to even make a play on the ball. Chavez had to be helped off the field and was replaced by Kirby Yates in what ended up being a 10-7 win for the Braves.

The ball hit Chavez’s left shin bone but according to Braves manager Brian Snitker after the game initial x-rays were negative.
At 39, Chavez has been a key cog in the Braves bullpen this season holding a 1.55 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and compiling a 36/9 K/BB ratio across 31 games. There had been growing support for him to be selected to the All-Star game this season.
