Austin Cindric’s car fails pre-race inspection at Talldega

The No. 2 Ford Mustang driven by Austin Cindric failed pre-race inspection for the Cup Series race on Friday.

According to coverage during qualifying, Cindric’s car originally passed inspection at Talladega but made an unapproved change afterwards. When NASCAR noticed this they required the car to go though inspection again which it did not pass.

For the infraction Cindric will lose his car chief and pit stall selection for the GEICO 500.

Though nine races this season Cindric has an average finish of 19.9 and sits 19th in the overall driver standings with two top-10 finishes. Last season Cindric made headlines by winning the season opening Daytona 500 on a Superspeedway. He would finish third at Daytona in the summer event while finishing 21st and ninth in his two Talladega starts. Cindric fnished 23rd at Daytona to start this season.
