Colts place QB Carson Wentz on reserve/COVID-19 list

With the team on a winning streak and a playoff spot in sight the last thing the Colts wanted to do was place a key player on the reserve/COVID-19 list. That is just what happened on Tuesday as quarterback Carson Wentz was one of a slue of NFL players to hit the list following Week 16 games.

Wentz, and the rest of the players, are all eligible to return this week if they test negative and have no symptoms but that is hardly a given.

The Colts have numerous players on the reserve/COVID-19 list and on Saturday night had to rotate players though their offensive line due to COVID-19 and injury.

The Colts have reportedly considered contacting Philip Rivers about having him return to close out the season. Rivers spent last season with the Colts before moving into retirement but has seen his name pop up in recent weeks due to injury and COVID-19 to starters, not to mention he was still pretty effective last season before hanging up the cleats.

Sam Ehlinger is the Colts backup. He has appeared in three games this season but has yet to throw a passing rushing for nine yards on three attempts. The team signed Brett Hundley to their practice squad in November.
