Larson nabs extension at Hendrick through 2023

The decision by Hendrick Motorsports to sign Kyle Larson has already had immediate returns to the team and now the driver has signed an extension with the team.

Larson, 28, has already tied his career high in a season with four wins at the Cup Series level this season but for the first time in his career he’s a legitimate championship contender.

“When we perform on the track on Sunday, we can feel the impact on Monday,” said Rick Hendrick, chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group and owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “With the chance to plan for the next two years, the program is only going to help Hendrick Automotive Group sell more cars, book more service appointments and ultimately do more business. It will also allow our company to recruit talented people and support our internal recognition and incentive programs. The more we followed the data, the easier the decision became. We are seeing clear results.”

The current deal for Larson was set to expire at the end of the 2022 season but the new deal means the driver will be with the team though 2023.

“It’s just an awesome time for me,” Larson said. “(I’m) very thankful for everybody at HendrickCars.com and Hendrick Automotive Group, Mr. H (and) everybody at Hendrick Motorsports. I look forward to the next couple of years, and hopefully a lot more years here down the road. I look forward to it and I look forward to a lot more wins, hopefully.”
