Joey Logano won the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
The championship was claimed by Logano besting the runs of Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano and Martin Truex Jr. in the Ford EcoBoost 400.
Denny Hamlin began the race on the pole but ended the season without a win for the first time in 12 years. Likewise, 7-time series champion Jimmie Johnson failed to find victory lane in 2018.
The race was potentially the last for Matt Kenseth, and was for certain the final for Truex’s team of Furniture Row Racing.
Harvick won the first segment, taking the lead away from Denny Hamlin following pitstops midway though the segment. The second segment went to Kyle Larson but after pitstops it was Logano who would find himself at the front of the field. On lap 193 Larson would lose a right rear tire and make contact with the wall bringing out a caution while all but ending his chance at the race win.
While Truex, Harvick and Logano pitted, Busch stayed out hoping to pull off a surprise. He was rewarded on lap 247 after a caution came out for teammate Daniel Suarez spun. After a jostle on the restart Logano would assume the lead and stay there claiming his first MENCS championship in the process.
