A pair of pitchers are not expected to make the Opening Day roster for the Brewers.
Boone Logan and Wade Miley were just two of the players the Brewers added this past winter in hopes of closing the gap between the team and the division winning Cubs from a season ago but now it appears neither will be on the roster when the 2018 season begins.
Logan, who signed a one-year deal worth $1.875 million, is dealing with a minor left triceps strain. With Opening Day a week away, the Brewers are expected to place him on the 10-day disabled list.
A member of the Indians a year ago, Logan appeared in just 38 games in 2017 after amassing 126 appearances over the previous two seasons. Logan dealt with a lat issue and had a $7 million option declined by the Indians.
Miley is also going to be unavailable for the Brewers to start the season due to a left groin tear. Signed to a minor league deal in February, Miley would make $2.5 million if he makes the Brewers and a total of $5.9 million if he makes 29 starts.
While his deal includes an opt-out, Miley has stated he hopes to remain with the Brewers. He made 32 starts for the Orioles last season but that also came with a 5.61 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP. The biggest knock against Miley was a 142/93 K/BB ratio over his 157 1/3 innings of work.
