The Detroit Tigers announced today that Victor Martinez had tore the medial meniscus in his left knee.
Martinez, 36, suffered the injury last week during an offseasn workout and is now scheduled to have Dr. James Andrews perform surgery on him. Andrews is to go to work on Martinez on February 10.

The injury is not a huge concern going forward for Martinez other than how close it is to the reporting date of spring training. Martinez is now very questionable for the start of the regular season. It could also force the Tigers to re-access where they play Martinez next season.
Re-signed to a four-year, $68 million free agent contract in November the Tigers may let him play designated hitter much of the season.
