For the better part of a decade major league baseball teams attempted to use Jamey Wright as a starting pitcher. Then one day someone had the idea to place the right hander in the bullpen, and finally he began to thrive.
A former first-round pick, Wright has found success in the bullpen even as he had to accept minor league deals and pitch his way onto rosters during spring training.
In 2014 he was given a guaranteed deal with the Dodgers worth $1.8 million. After pitching well for the first half of the season, Wright struggled down the stretch. Still manager Don Mattingly praised his ability to get out both right and left handed batters.
At the end of the year Wright became a free agent and with the Dodgers acquisition of Joel Peralta it can be assumed that the 39-year-old Wright will not be returning to Los Angeles in 2014.
After 19 years and 11 different organizations is this finally the end for Jamey Wright?
One would think Wright who finished last year with a 4.35 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP across 70 1/3 innigns of work to get at-least another one of those minor league contracts, if he is interested.
