The Dallas Cowboys have remained hopeful that backup quarterback Kyle Orton will choose to stay with the team instead of retire. Multiple reports, including NFL.com, state that the Cowboys believe Orton will attend minicamp.

Orton, 31, is considered one of the NFL’s better backups and ideally would be stationed on the bench for the entire season but the Iowa native is unsure if he wants to continue to play in the NFL.

With the status of Orton in doubt the Cowboys signed former Cleveland Browns starter Brandon Weeden.

Orton started the Cowboys season finale against Philadelphia in place of an injured Romo. He finished the 2013 season completing 64.7-percent of his passes for 398 yards two touchdowns and two interceptions.

By retiring Orton stands to lose a large chunk of money. He would lose out on a $3.25 million salary and be forced to pay back $3 million of his signing bonus.
