The Washington Nationals figure to have right handed pitcher Doug Fister pitch in early May.

Fister will make his debut for the Nationals on May 7 according to manager Matt Williams. Currently Fister is dealing with a lat strain which he suffered in his final start of spring training.

“No issues,” Williams said about a two inning stint on Thursday afternoon, via The Washington Post. “He felt good about it. Reports are his first inning was better than his second inning, which is a good sign.”

The Nationals will have Fister begin throwing once every five days as he rebuilds arm strength to join their rotation.

While the ideal day may be May 7 the Nationals are not setting it in stone so to say.

“We’re looking at that time period, somewhere in there,” Williams said. “We can push him back a day, too, if he’s sore at all or anything like that. So, 20ish days, if all goes well.”

Fister was acquired in the offseason from the Detroit Tigers.

Rangers release Rafael Perez

The Texas Rangers have released relief pitcher Rafael Perez.

Perez, 31, made four relief appearances at Triple-A Round Rock posting a 7.36 ERA. Recent shoulder problems have zapped the effectiveness of Perez. His previous track record will likely afford him at-least one more chance.

Carlos Martinez could enter rotation for Cardinals

Cardinals manager Mike Mathney has not ruled out Carlos Martinez joining the rotation in light of the recent injury to Joe Kelly.

Should Kelly miss an extended amount of time then Martinez will claim his spot in the rotation. Kelly won the final rotation spot over Martinez.
