Veteran infielder Wilson Betemit was unable to land a spot on the bench of the Tampa Bay Rays but has opted to stay around the organization accepting a assignment to Triple-A.
Betemit, 32, hit .259/.353/.333 with four RBI in 27 games this spring. He will provide the Rays with valuable depth at the minor league level and will almost certainly see action at the major league level at some point in 2014.
Over parts of 11 season Betemit is a career .267/.332/.442 hitter with 75 home runs, 283 RBI and 264 runs scored. He can play all across the infield.
