After six unimpressive seasons in the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system Preston Mattingly dropped out of baseball following the 2011 season.

Mattingly, 25, is the son of Dodgers manager Don Mattingly who also had a successful career as the first baseman of the New York Yankees.

Now Mattingly is headed to Lamar Universtiy to play basketball under Pat Knight.

“For any Indiana kid it would be a dream to go play for Pat Knight,” Mattingly told the Evansville Courier & Press. “Obviously I’m a lot older than everybody else, but I’m just one of the guys. Things worked out great.”
