The Washington Nationals made their first post season appearance and now the team is looking to lock up a key piece of the team. First basemen Adam LaRoche has a $10 million mutual option that the club could pick up for 2013 but both parties are said to be looking towards a long-term deal.
I don’t know what stage you would say it is,” LaRoche said. “There’s nothing definitive. I don’t know if this is something that is a week out or two months out. They’ve laid a little bit of the groundwork to see if it would even work. They’ve made some progress.”
LaRoche played in 154 games for the Nationals in 2012. He batted .271/.343/.510 and set a career high with 33 home runs. LaRoche also recorded his second season of 100 RBI. The soon to be 33-year-old hit two home-runs in the NLDS against St. Louis.
