The New York Mets would like to retain third basemen David Wright and pitcher R.A. Dickey for years to come. The team is working on re-signing the two to multi-year deals before their current contracts expire after the 2013 season.
Wright has long been considered a cornerstone of the Mets. He is believed to be seeking a long term deal of seven years or more worth $125 million. Wright has a club option of $16 million for the 2013 season. He compiled a .306/.391/.492 line in 2012 while hitting 21 home runs and driving in 93 RBI. Wright has spent his entire 9 years of major league service with the Mets.
R.A. Dickey has been one of the biggest surprises in baseball the last couple of seasons. Dickey has a $5 million option for next season but is believed to be willing to test free agency if a deal cannot be worked out before sprint training. Dickey won 20 games this season and had a 2.73 ERA. Dickey is on a short list for the NL Cy Young award.
Tthe New York Post’s Mike Puma believes the Mets and both players could have contracts worked out prior to the World Series starting.
