Townley gets DUI, loses ride

John Wes Townley has been replaced in the #09 RAB Racing Truck as a result of his recent DUI wreck in Georgia. Townley had been tabbed to run for NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rookie of the Year honors this year in a Toyota Tundra provided by the team which would have had some sponsorship coming from the family owned Zaxby’s chicken.

According to reports Townley crashed his 2012 BMW into a telephone pole and was arrested after going to a nearby house for help. In 2010 Townley was cited for underage possession of alcohol while he was driving for Richard Childress Racing. He was removed from the teams car following the incident.

Following the most recent offense, RAB Racing has announced that he will be replaced in their truck until his return is considered appropriate.

“Obviously, this is an unfortunate situation,” said Robby Benton, owner of RAB Racing with Brack Maggard. “However, we have to react to the severity of the incident accordingly. His actions do not reflect those of RAB Racing, nor the sponsors associated with the team. “John Wes has accepted full responsibility, and will take the necessary personal steps in order to correct his actions, among other internal sanctions,” Benton continued. “We stand by John Wes, and will welcome him back to the team at the appropriate time.”(RAB Racing PR)(2-10-2012)

Townley last raced in the Nationwide series in 2010. It is unknown who RAB will replace him with in their truck.
