American skier Lindsey Vonn had controlled the headlines leading up to the OlympicAlpine Skiing Ladies Downhill - Day 6s it seemed with concerns about her bruised shin. The headlines will now read differently as the 25-year-old captured Gold in the first Alpine skiing event earlier today.
Vonn’s closest competition for the Gold at the Women’s downhill came from fellow American Julia Mancuso, while Elisabeth Goergl of Austria took home the bronze.
// Her time of 1 minute 44.19 seconds beat Mancuso’s by more than half a second. Vonn became the first American woman ever to win the Olympic downhill and she and Mancuso provided the first 1-2 finish for American Alpine skiers since 1984.
