Jarryd Hayne is back on the active roster for the 49ers.
Hayne, 27, replaces guard Alex Boone who was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. The former Australian National Rugby League star last played in Week 6. The Hayne Plane was cut on Oct. 31 but signed with the teams’ practice squad after clearing waivers.
During his first stint with the 49ers, Hayne worked mainly on special teams. Hayne fumbled three times as a punt returning – including his first attempt in Week 1.
Hayne could take over punt return duties from Bruce Ellington. Additionally he could see some snaps as a running back with Shaun Draughn already ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Lions.
