Kris Richard expected to receive defensive coordinator job after Super Bowl

NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks
Seahawks defensive backs coach Kris Richard could be one of the names to claim a defensive coordinator job after the Super Bowl.

Richard has been the Seaawks defensive backs coach for a while now overseeing a unit that has the likes of Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and Cam Chancellor.

“He took kind of a ragtag bunch of DBs in 2011 and made them perennial All-Pros and Pro Bowlers, and you don’t hear his name being mentioned as much for D-coordinator jobs and things like that,” Sherman said earlier this month, via PFT. “Which I think it should be. We obviously know what kind of coach he is and what he’s done. But obviously everybody else doesn’t.”

With current Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn set to become the new head coach of the Falcons, Richard has a few options. He could replace Quinn in Seattle or follow him to Atlanta.

Richard’s relationship with head coach Pete Carroll and the talent on the Seahawks make that job more appealing to him. He was an assistant at USC under Carroll and followed him to the NFL in 2010.
