In what can be deemed purely a depth signing, the Dallas Cowboys have given running back Ryan Williams a new two-year contract.
Williams, 24, is a former second-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals but has fallen off the relevancy radar in recent years. He ran 25 times for 112 yards this past preseason but remains a long-shot to crack the Cowboys 53-man roster despite the impending departure of DeMarco Murray.
The Cowboys will need to find a replacement for the production of Murray. While backup Joseph Randle looked good in limited stints the Cowboys are said to prefer he stay in that role.
