Kyle Shanahan is a candidate for 49ers head coaching job

The 49ers are expected to pursue a young offensive mind to be their next head coach. One option is current Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.

In his first season with the Browns Shanahan was able to get production out of journeyman Brian Hoyer which led the team to a 7-4 record and a shot at the playoffs though their first 11 weeks. Injuries and poor play later doomed the team.

Shanahan would be an interesting fit for the 49ers who are looking for a way to restart the career of quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Shanahan worked with Robert Griffin III previously and was able to get production out of him as a rookie prior to his knee injury.

Former 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh was let go by the team on Sunday and is expected to take over as the new coach at the University of Michigan.
