The Washington Redskins have ruled tight end Jordan Reed out ahead of their Week 3 contest against NFC East rival Philadelphia.

Reed has been bothered by a hamstring injury suffered in a season opening loss to Houston. He will be replaced by Niles Paul for Sunday’s game.

A year ago Reed caught 45 passes for 499 yards and three touchdowns while appearing in nine games for the Redskins. When healthy he provides a valuable target off the line of scrimmage for whomever the Redskins have under center but right now he simply cannot play. He should be considered week to week at this point and once healthy should regain his spot as the Redskins starting tight end.
