The Carolina Panthers are considering placing defensive end Greg Hardy on the NFL’s exempt list according to a ESPN report released on Wednesday.

Early Wednesday morning the Minnesota Vikings placed Adrian Peterson on the exempt list after a storm of backlash as the team reinstated him on Monday following allegations that he abused a four-year-old son.

Hardy currently is appealing his conviction of wo domestic violence charges. He was found guilty in July of assaulting and threatening his ex-girlfriend and had been deactivated for last weekends game in the wake of incidents involving Peterson and Ray Rice gaining national attention.

If placed on the exempt list the Panthers would not be able to play Hardy but would still pay him.

Hardy would have to face 60 days in jail and an 18 month probation period if he is unable to win his appeal.
