The Miami Dolphins lost backup center Sam Brenner during an 11-on-11 drill on Tuesday. Brenner was taken off the practice field on a cart with his right shoe removed.

A second-year player who was undrafted out of Utah last season, Brenner started four games as a rookie last season.

Backup left tackle Nate Garner took over at backup center for the rest of practice. Right now starting center Mike Pouncey is out of action following his offseason hip surgery. Pouncey’s return date is unknown and may not come until mid-season.

Shelley Smith currently is slated to be the Dolphins starting center when the season begins.
