Vince Young has retired from the NFL.

The news is hardly news as Young has not played in a regular season game since the 2011 season. He announced his retirement on Saturday.

“I’m retired,” Young told NFL.com.

Young did leave the door open for a return though adding, “Unless we get a great opportunity, something guaranteed … I’ve already started moving forward. … It’s definitely official, I think, in my book.”

Last season the Green Bay Packers cut Young in the preseason. He was part of the Browns three-day minicamp but found himself released days after the team selected Johnny Manziel.

The No. 3 pick in 2006 by the Tennessee Titans, Young spent parts of six seasons with the Tennessee Titans and later the Philadelphia Eagles.

Young threw for 8,964 yards and 46 touchdowns during his NFL career and has accepted a position with the Texans Longhorns with whom he won a National Championship in 2005.
