There are five tight ends taking part in OTAs for the San Francisco 49ers but none of them are named Vernon Davis.
According to CSN Bay Area, Mangini told the group that now was the time to impress because Davis could be out for “awhile.”
The group is headed up by Vance McDonald who should serve as the No. 2 tight end once Davis returns.
“It’s different,” McDonald said about Davis. “He’s goofy and goofing off, but when it comes to football he’s always full-tilt. I miss the dude. I’ll be honest. I miss the dude.”
Davis is two touchdowns from moving into fifth all-time for tight ends. He is unsure whether or not he will attend minicamp.
Last season Davis caught 52 passes for 850 yards and 13 touchdowns.
