The NFL career of tight end Jermicahel Finely is on hold right now while a medical condition with his neck is sorted out. Still there is one high profile person who is hoping that Finley remains with the Green Bay Packers.
“In my mind, he’s a Green Bay Packer, hopefully,” coach Mike McCarthy said on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Wednesday. “He’s going through a tough medical situation that we all recognize is a serious injury. My understanding is he’s doing everything and beyond to get himself ready, and we’ll continue to watch that.”
McCarthy’s comments come shortly after Packers general manager Ted Thompson left the door open for a Finley return. While McCarthy’s comments are surprising it is rare that the Packers head coach says something in public without a purpose behind it.
If Finley is cleared a return to the Packers would seem to be the best for both sides. The Packers remain thin at tight end with Andrew Quarless, Ryan Taylor and third-round pick Richard Rodgers at the position.
