Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy is out on bond, a day after he was arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence charges.
Hardy, 25, is accused of “of throwing girlfriend Nicole Holder to the floor and into a bathtub, slamming her against a Futon and “strangling” during an argument at his home” reports the Charlotte Observer.
Early Tuesday morning police were called to the home of Hardy and found his girlfriend Nicole Holder, 24, sratched and bruised. Both Hardy and Holder had been drinking.
According to an arrest warrant, Hardy said he would kill Holder, the warrant said, a threat “made in a manner and under circumstances which would cause a reasonable person to believe that the threat was likely to be carried out.”
Hardy allegedly threw Holder onto a couch which had weapons that the Panthers player said were loaded. The two had been in a relationship since last year but Holder filed a restraining order on Wednesday against Hardy.
The Panthers used the franchise tag on Hardy this season and had been wanting to work out an extension with him. He was a sixth round pick in 2010 in part because of character concerns.
“We are very disappointed to learn of the allegations involving Greg and are concerned for all parties as we continue to investigate,” the Panthers said in a statement released on Tuesday.
