Josh Gordon faces year long suspension

So much for that Johnny Manziel to Josh Gordon connection.

Gordon is facing a season-long suspension after failing a drug test reports ESPN’s Outside the Lines. The 23-year-old wide receiver missed the first two games of the 2013 season after testing positive for marijuana. Twice during his college career at Baylor he ran into trouble with marijuana.

Reached by phone Friday afternoon by ESPN, Gordon said: “That’s something you’re going to have to talk to [agent] Drew Rosenhaus about. I really don’t know anything about it.”

“I’m going to have to find out about that later. You need to call Drew.” Gordon then hung up the phone.

The news of Gordon’s potential suspension comes less than 24 hours after the Browns drafted quarterback Johnny Manziel.

The Browns front office knew about a potential suspension of Gordon prior to the start of the NFL Draft on Thursday. Their coaching staff did not find out about Gordon’s suspension until ESPN released its report.

Even with missing the first two games of the 2013 season Gordon led the Browns with 87 receptions and had nine touchdowns. He led the NFL with 1,646 receiving yards and became the first player with consecutive 200-yard receiving games.
