Signed by the New York Jets during the offseason, Michael Vick will now have to change his jersey number.
Vick has worn the No. 7 since his NFL career began but last season Geno Smith was selected by the Jets and took the No. 7. A year later the team signed Vick.
The choice for Vick came down to either No. 3 or No. 8.
Other “famous” Jets to wear No. 8: punter Greg Gantt (1974-75), quarterback Tom Flick (1987), quarterback Browning Nagle (1991-93), kicker Nick Lowery (1994-96), quarterback Todd Husak (2002), and Mark Brunell (2010-11).
