Marcus Lattimore: “I’m ready to play”

San Francisco 49ers running back Marcus Lattimore has been eyeing a return to the field after having to sit out his entire rookie season.

“After my injury, I just wanted to walk again,” Lattimore said on Friday to GoGamecocks.com. “It was tough, very tough. We’re a playoff team, so we play 20-plus games. Being on that sideline, we got so close to the Super Bowl title the last three years.

“But I’m blessed to be in this situation. Never would have thought in a million years I’d be in this situation.”

Lattimore is hoping to return to football after a graphic knee injury ended his 2012 season at South Carolina.

Lattimore is ready to head to minicamp for the 49ers. With Anthony Dixon signing with Buffalo and reports circulating that LaMichael James is on the trade block the 49ers may be setting Lattimore up for a considerable role this season.

“Me and Kendall want to have a chance to do that,” Lattimore said about backing up Gore. “Go out there and help that team. If we can go and take some pressure of Frank, we can also help (Colin Kaepernick) move around.”
