Even with a pending suspension and a less than desirable track record the San Francisco 49ers are not planning to cut linebacker Aldon Smith.
In addition to his recent arrest for the false reporting of a bomb threat at LAX, Smith is still facing three felony gun charges as well as a DUI charge that sent him to rehab last season.
Still Smith is expected to be part of the 49ers next season but NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport says there is no guarantee he is on the field.
“It is possible Aldon Smith isn’t on the field because he may be in jail,” Rapoport said Thursday.
The biggest reason the 49ers are not going to cut Smith is that his $3 million salary is guaranteed regardless.
