James Ihedigbo gets two-year contract from Lions

The Detroit Lions have signed free agent safety James Ihedigbo to a two-year contract.

Ihedigbo, 30, is coming of his best season setting a career high with 101 tackles and recording the first three interceptions of his career.

The news was first relayed by the safety on twitter.

“It’s Agreed upon! I’m a @DetroitLionsNFL,” Ihedigbo wrote on his Twitter account. “I’m excited for what’s ahead and helping this team achieve greatness!!!#HeartOfALion #LionsNation.”

The Ravens agreed to a one-year contract with former St. Louis Rams safety Darian Stewart on Friday. They did not make an attempt to keep Ihedigbo.

By signing with the Lions, Ihedigo is reunited with Teryl Austin who was the secondary coach for the Baltimore Ravens the past two seasons. In addition former Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell has taken over the head coaching duties in Detroit.
