Phil Dawson not getting franchise tag from 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers may want to keep Phil Dawson for 2014 but they will not be able to do so with the franchise tag says Pro Football Talk.

Dawson was franchise tagged by the Cleveland Browns in 2011 and 2012 meaning that if the 49ers were to place the tag on him it would be worth the same as the quarterback franchise, or about $16 million.

Expect the 49ers to try and sign Dawson to an extension as the kicker who has expressed a desire to return.
