The Buffalo Bills have hired Jim Schwartz as their new defensive coordinator.

Schwartz was fired as the head coach of the Detroit Lions at the end of the season but joins the Bills as a viable option at defensive coordinator. He served in that role in Tennessee from 2001-2008 under Jeff Fisher.

Adding to Schwartz is that he has history with the 3-4 and 4-3 defenses which the Bills could currently employ either.

Schwartz takes the place of Mike Pettine who left to become the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
