With Michael Vick a free agent the Philadelphia Eagles could enter the 2014 season with Matt Barkley as their back-up quarterback.

Barkley just finished up his first NFL season with the Philadelphia Eagles but was left to sit on the bench, something that the former USC stater was not use to doing.

The Philadelphia Inquirer says that the Eagles are still high on Barkley and the quarterback still believes he has what it takes to be an NFL starter.

“You always want to be in a spot where you compete for a starting job,” Barkley said. “I don’t think you ever want to settle for being a backup. Sometimes that’s just the way it is. I don’t know what next year’s going to look like. Still a lot of questions to be answered. But I think my job is to compete and strive for being the starting quarterback.”
