First Draft Pick scenarios for Texans and Rams, Redskins

Wild Card Playoffs - Cincinnati Bengals v Houston Texans

The Houston Texans or Washington Redskins will earn the first overall draft pick of the 2014 NFL Draft. While the Texans would actually get to draft with their selection the Redskins would have to turn their pick over to the St. Louis Rams as part of a trade from two years ago that netted the Redskins Robert Grifffin III in the 2012 Draft.

So what are the scenarios for the top draft pick of 2014?

  • Texans lose, Washington wins or loses. With a loss, the Texans would finish 2-14 and claim the top draft pick
  • Texans win, Washington wins. The Texans would finish 3-13 and the Redskins 4-12, so the Texans would draft first.
  • Texans win, Washington loses. Both teams would finish 3-13, but the Redskins hold the strength of schedule tiebreaker, .520 to .567. That would allow the Rams to draft first pushing the Texans back to second.

The Texans will play against the Tennessee Titans (6-9) on Sunday while the Redskins will play against the New York Giants. (6-9)

While the Texans are in need of a quarterback it is unclear if the Rams are considering a change.

So Texans fans are you rooting for your team to win or lose on Sunday?
