With cornerback Wlater Thurmond’s suspension becoming official on Tuesday the Seattle Seahawks signed Perrish Cox.

Cox, 26, appeared in nine games with the San Francisco 49ers last season before being released in November. He will take the roster spot of Thurmond who will not be eligible to return to the Seahawks until Dec. 23.

The Seahawks could also be without cornerback Brandon Browner who is appealing a one-year ban for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.

Thurmond has started three games this season for Seattle, including the team’s last game against Minnesota when he had his first interception of the season and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown. Thurmond has been a key role player to the Seahawks secondary.

The Seahawks also worked out Marcus Trufant but thus far there has been no talk of a contract.
