The Green Bay Packers have promoted quarterback Scott Tolzien from their practice squad.

Tolzien will back up Senecea Wallace in the wake of Aaron Rodgers broken collarbone. The Packers could choose to give Tolzien a chance to play if Wallace continues to be ineffective like he was on Monday night.

RODGERS: QB refuses to put timetable on return

Previously Tolzien had spent the 2012 season with the San Francisco 49ers but has yet to appear n a regular season game. He was picked up by the Packers at the end of the preseason and added to their practice squad.

Tolzien, 26, played college football at the University of Wisconsin.

Just last week the Packers opted to give Tolzien a raise to keep him from joining another team in a backup role. That maneuver by the Packers is looking to be smart move in the wake of Rodgers injury.

The Packers will play against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
