Josh Freeman has joined the Minnesota Vikings. Released last week by Tampa Bay after a series of barbs with the team the former first-round pick joins a team that already has Matt Cassel and Christian Ponder on the roster.

Cassel was signed as a free agent in the offseason and started last week for the Vikings guiding them to their first win of the year while filling in for an injured Ponder.

The news first broke at the end of Sunday’s names game between the 49ers and Texans by Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio and then spread on twitter.

With Ponder expected to miss additional time with his rib injury, the Vikings felt the need to add another quarterback to their roster.

Freeman played three games for Tampa Bay this season throwing for 571 yards and compiling a 59.3 QB rating. Freeman had two touchdowns and three interceptions during that time.
