While the Indianapolis Colts are hopeful that Ahmad Bradshaw will return to the team, there is concern that the running back may be out for a significant amount of time.

Bradshaw suffered a neck injury in a game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 22. The Colts had hoped that treatment and rest would allow Bradshaw to return to the field but that has not been the case.

A source close to the team said that there was a level of concern that surgery might be required.

Neither the Colts or Bradshaw’s representatives have released information in regards to his status.

Bradshaw was signed in the offseason to a one-year deal. The Colts had acquired Trent Richardson prior to Bradshaw’s injury.

Richardson’s role in the Colts offense should continue to grow going forward. Donald Brown will also see playing time. Last week Richardson ran 20 times for 60 yards while Brown racked up 65 yards on three carries.
