Panthers: Safety Charles Godfrey out for season with Achilles

The season of Carolina Panthers safety Charles Godfrey is over.

Godfrey, 27, tore his right Achilles’ tendon in the Panthers loss to the Bills on Sunday.

The Panthers will have to patch together their secondary with D.J. Moore and Colin Jones next to Mike Mitchell. The Achilles tear should force Godfrey to renegotiate his $5 million base salary for the 2014 season.

Godfrey has been with the Panthers since being drafted in 2008. He has played in 73 career games.
