The San Francisco 49ers added quarterback Seneca Wallace to their roster on Thursday.

Wallace, 33, was recently cut by the New Orleans Saints.

The late addition of Wallace does not ensure him of making the 49ers final roster but rather gives the team another option to consider for the job of backing up Colin Kaepernick.

By all accounts, Colt McCoy and Scott Tolzien have struggled throughout the preseason. The duo has combined to throw zero touchdowns and three interceptions.

Wallace sat out the entire 2012 season after appearing in sox games for Cleveland in 2011. The 49ers will hope he does not see the field in 2013, outside of preseason action.

In order to make room for Wallace the 49ers waived WR Ricardo Lockette.
