The Miami Dolphins have cut ties with cornerback Richard Marshall.

It was just last year that the Dolphins and general manager Jeff Ireland signed Marshall to a three-year deal worth $16 million.

The 28-year-old Marshall will probably be able to latch on somewhere else this season. However after playing just four games last season and being suspect in coverage he will not approach the money that Miami had given him.

Cutting him allows the Dolphins to avoid a $4.55 million base salary.

The Dolphins had Marhsall listed as a starter at corner, across from Brent Grimes. Dimitri Peterson was listed as Marshall’s backup.

There are some reports that the Dolphins may even try to bring Marshall back at a smaller salary, depending on what kind of offers he gets around the league.

Previously Marhsall played six seasons with the Carolina Panthers and one year with the Arizona Cardinals before joining the Dolphins.
