David Garrard and the New York Jets have parted ways. Garrard was one of six quarterbacks that the Jets had on their roster prior to the release of Tim Tebow.

NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport is confirming an earlier report from NYJetsSuck.com that Garrard told two teammates that he was no longer with the team.

Garrard was signed by the Jets to push Mark Sanchez but things clearly changed when the team drafted Geno Smith in the second round of the NFL Draft. With the Jets still glowing about Smith the handwriting was clearly on the wall that Garrard would not be the teams starter in Week 1.

Citing knee issues the quarterback has opted to retire. Garrard has not appeared in an NFL game since 2010.
