Browns still not commiting to Weeden as starter

Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski is not ready to call Brandon Weeden his starting quarterback. The Browns brought in veteran Jason Campbell to compete for the starting job this offseason.

Weeden was the Browns first round draft pick in 2012 but that was before the hiring of Chudzinski and the hiring of Michael Lombardi as general manager.

“I feel good about where we’re at right now,” Chudzinski told CBS Cleveland. “He’s been working with the first group and we’ll just see as we go forward. … Right now it’s too early to say anything one way or another.”

While Chudzinski and company have played up the competition line the Browns will likely enter the season as the starter. Cleveland quickly needs to find out what they have in the 29-year-old and Campbell does not have as high of an upside.

Whichever quarterback starts the season for the Browns they should have an ample opportunity to put up numbers with new offensive coordinator Norv Turner.
