San Francisco 49ers kicker David Akers has quit twitter. Akers has had a rough season connecting on 25-of-35 attempts this season after setting an NFL record with 44 field goals last season.

On Wednesday night Akers retweeted the following message according to the Sacramento Bee.

RT @RIP_FreeLaddin YOU F—-OT IF YOU MISS ONE MORE FIELD GOAL YOU ABOUT TO GET YOUR ENTIRE LIFE ENDED.

Akers then disabled his account.

On Monday 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said that the team was not planning on making a change at kicker after Nate Kaeding and Billy Cundiff were called in for tryouts.

Akers is not the first 49er to receive death threats on twitter. Last year mutltiple people sent threats to Kyle Williams after he muffed two punts in the NFC Championship game.

Recently running back Brandon Jacobs had a spat with fans on Twitter and Instagram that led to a three game suspension.
