Browns scrap plan to give fans white flag

The Cleveland Browns have given up on the planned promotion of handing out a white flag to all of its fans. After a week of criticism from fans and players the team has scrapped the idea of giving away a white flag before Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The white flag was to be the Browns response to the terrible towel waived by Steeler fans.

Except waiving a white flag symbolizes surrender. Though considering the Browns have lost 16 of their last 17 against the Steelers maybe the flag was not the worst idea.

The Browns released the following statement in regards to the canceling of the promotion.

“After further and careful consideration, we felt it was in the best interests of everyone involved that we not have a giveaway item at tomorrow’s game,” the statement said. “It is something that was intended to be fun for our fans and that they could rally around, and we regret that some didn’t perceive it that way. We want to thank all of our fans for their tremendous support and we look forward to seeing them out in force at the stadium tomorrow.”

Pittsburgh is a one point favorite entering the game even though they will have to start third string quarterback Charlie Batch. Batch will be making his first start in nearly a year.

The Browns are 2-8 this season.
